Hibiscus moscheutos LUNA Red is a vigorous, sturdy, rounded, somewhat shrubby, hairy-stemmed, woody-based perennial of the mallow family. It typically grows to 3-7’ tall and to 2-4’ wide. It is native to wet spots (marshes, swamps, floodplains, river banks, moist meadows, and moist woods) from Ontario and Massachusetts south to Ohio, Indiana, Alabama and Florida. ‘Luna Red’ is a compact F1 hybrid cultivar which grows to 2-3’ tall. Each flower (6-8” diameter) features five overlapping deep burgundy red petals. Prominent and showy creamy white to pale yellow central staminal column. Blooms July to September.
A Northern Sunset Perennial. It prefers rich, moist to wet soil in full sun to part sun.
