Lewisia x longipetala Little Plum has abundant, magnificent, large, purple-pink blossoms with just a hint of orange upon opening. It has compact rosettes of thick evergreen leaves with upright stems. This little gem is easy to grow and can produce over 100 blossoms on a 2 year old plant. It has a long flowering season and may rebloom in September. Excellent in containers, and tolerates cold, wet winters. An easy plant for the garden.
Found in Scotland as a chance seedling, this fabulous Lewisia is probably from a cross of L. longipetala and L. cotyledon. Since it’s crossed with the species longipetala, Little Plum is an especially heavy bloomer.
Any well-drained soil is suitable, though it prefers gravel with minimal soil. This low growing plant is a good plant for rock or alpine gardens. Drought tolerant once established. Easy, tough and long lived, now that you know what they need, you must try one of these charming treasures!
A Northern Sunset Perennial, it prefers average, very well-drained soil in part sun.
