Hakonechloa macra Albo Striata (White Variegated Hakone Grass) is one of the most gorgeous of ornamental grasses. And one of the few that prefers shady sites. It forms a low mound of arching stems, with cascading layers of narrow leaves striped with green and creamy-white. The graceful effect is similar to a dwarf bamboo. Tiny green flowers are hidden among the leaves. Clumps are slow to grow, but eventually makes a spectacular edging.
Part of the Northern Sunset brand, it prefers rich, well-drained to moist soil in part shade to part sun.
