Royal Standard Hosta

A Part Shade Perennial

Hosta x Royal Standard is a large hosta resulting from a cross between H. plantaginea and H. sieboldiana. It grows in a mound to 26″ tall but spreads to 63″ wide. Narrow, oval, bright medium green leaves (to 9″ by 5″) with a satiny sheen have faint marginal undulations with distinctive veining. A sun tolerant variety, the leaves of this cultivar acquire yellowish-green tones in full sun. Highly fragrant, funnel-shaped, white flowers, from it’s H. plantaginea parent, bloom in late summer to fall on pale green scapes that rise above the foliage mound to 42″ tall. U. S. Plant Patent PP2467 was issued on January 19, 1965. The first Hosta to receive such a patent.
