Aquilegia x Red Hobbit is a compact version of the popular Aquilegia x ‘Crimson Star’. This is a low-growing, bushy, clump-forming columbine that typically rises to only 12-14” tall when in flower. Large, upward facing, long-spurred, primarily two-tone flowers with star-like, creamy white corollas (5 petals) and with crimson red sepals and spurs. Bushy yellow stamens add a third color. Blooms in spring. Fern-like green foliage with a bluish tinge is somewhat suggestive of meadow rue (Thalictrum).
A Northern Sunset Perennial. If prefers rich, moist to well-drained soil in part shade to part sun.
